That won’t stop the Seagulls from rejoicing over the win, which brings them closer to the mid table.
The Seagulls missed a couple of chances and failed miserably to secure their efforts.
Hughton finally managed to put his name on the sheet of managers who have won against Newcastle at home.
The manager finally won at St James Park as a former manager, thanks to his side brilliant defending.
During the course of the match, they striker Glenn Murray was taken off on a stretcher after a damning collision with Magpies defender Federico Fernández.
Murray was taken off the pitch, with his face covered in an oxygen mask, after the match was stopped by referee Andre Mariner for eight minutes.
The Seagulls stumbled after the incident, lacking the teeth to bite Newcastle on their tail.
According to reports, Murray suffered a concussion after the collision, but the 35-year-old has reportedly been discharged from the hospital as per BBC Sports.
“As most saw, he was [knocked] out and so what will happen is now, of course, we will do the appropriate things this week,” said manager Chris Hughton.
“But he’s had everything that he’s needed to have, the correct quick scans and so on, and everything is fine so it will just be a question now of recovering, but he’ll obviously be sore for a while.
“From where we were, we had no idea. We knew what had happened, that there had been a collision, but we had no idea of any other details.
“But when you see the players as distressed as they were, then it makes you even a little bit more concerned.”
