Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Mason Greenwood to represent the England national side in the near future. The 18-year-old has enjoyed a superb breakthrough season with the Red Devils this term and he has already netted 16 goals across all competitions for the Mancunian giants.
He told Sky Sports: “When you play for Manchester United, I think that’s a test that’s good enough and difficult enough. If you can handle playing for United, then you can handle playing for any team and Mason’s got the qualities that not many others have. So he could play for England full team or the U21s, I don’t really mind. I know he’s doing well for us and it’s great to have him here. Mason’s a naturally good finisher, so he’ll always score goals.”
Greenwood is widely regarded as the most talented teenager at United in a long period of time and he has caught the eye with his two-footed ability. The youngster is capable of finishing with either feet with a similar amount of precision and that is definitely a headache for any defender aiming to restrict him from scoring.
He requires another four goals to make it 20 for the season and should be fancied to achieve that tally, based on the recent form. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have already registered 20 goals for the campaign. Greenwood reaching the milestone would make it the first time in more than 50 years that three United players have scored 20 or more goals during a single season.
