North London giants Arsenal had not been in the Premier League top four for over 14 months until this week when they secure London Derby spoils at the expense of West Ham United. The Gunners beat West Ham United at home in a straightforward manner thereby replacing the Hammers as the fourth team on the Premier League standings behind the title challenging trio of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

The Gunners went into the West Ham United game trailing by two points in fifth place and with the knowledge that a win would take them above the Hammers and into the top four spots. They were able to meet their target thanks to the 2-0 win over 10-man West Ham United who had Czech right-back Vladimir Coufal sent off for two yellow cards. Coufal was given his first yellow card for using an elbow on Scotland left-back Kieran Tierney in the first half before his second yellow card arrived for bringing down Frenchman Alexandre Lacazettein the Hammers box midway into the second half. Lacazette picked himself up to take the penalty but he was unable to beat Lukasz Fabianski in the West Ham United goal. At the time of the penalty, Arsenal had already been leading thanks to the goal from Gabriel Martinelli. England international Emile Smith-Rowe then came off the bench to seal the 2-0 win with a well taken shot.
Arsenal moved one point ahead of West Ham United with the win and they can extend it to four points with an away win over Leeds United this weekend.
