Chelsea ahead of Manchester City

Chelsea is 2 points ahead of their nearest rivals Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title which is actually surprising as Chelsea began to drop points in their last match of 2014 when they faced off with Southampton had to settle with a 1-1 draw and a few days later in their opening match of the year, Jose Mourinho’s team lost against Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite these setbacks that Chelsea recently sustained, they still remain at the top of the English League as Manchester City also dropped a few points and Manuel Pellegrini’s side could not manage to fully capitalize on the mistakes of their opponents who are making a serious charge and statement to become the new champions of England. Leicester City 4th Defeat in Premier League

Leicester City sustained their 4th successive Premier League defeat after losing against Southampton and this result keeps the team of Nigel Pearson in the relegation zone of the English League and this series of negative results have sparked a series of rumors that claimed that the future of the coach Nigel Pearson might be at risk but Pearson says that all of these rumors are ludicrous.

“I find it quite irritating that every time we have a setback it’s always about a manager’s position. It’s ludicrous really but that’s the industry we work in.”

Nigel Pearson and his squad of Leicester City managed to win the previous season of the English Championship League without much difficulty as they collected a total of 102 points and their closest opponents only managed on securing 93 points, it was a superb campaign for Leicester City as they just ran past everyone and everything in their path but things have turned extremely difficult for them after getting promoted to the Premier League and the team of Nigel Pearson are now struggling just to avoid the relegation zone.

Leicester City’s Nigel Pearson revealed details concerning the current situation of his squad of players as he told the media: “People don’t realize the difference in quality at this level. We have good players. But our difficult run continues. We showed a lot of commitment but the quality of our opponents put paid to us getting something from the game.We are a side who are used to winning games, but we are finding it hard to get something and that is something that has to change pretty quickly’’

One of the factors that seems to be struggling most Leicester City in this season is their lack of scoring goals as they have only managed to score 11 goals in 11 matches, it’s one of the worst goal-scoring records out of all the teams in the Premier League and Nigel Pearson has already expressed his desire to try and solve this problem by signing a reliable attacking player.

Arsenal’s Joel Campbell is one of the targets of Nigel Pearson and Leicester City. Campbell is unhappy with his current situation with Arsenal as he is consistently being loaned out to a number of different clubs and Campbell does not play a very important role in the team of Arsene Wenger, this can allow Leicester City or another club on signing the 22 year old Costa Rican forward who made a superb series of performances for his country during the 2014 World Cup.

Monk Praises Team Efforts

Out of all the opening matches of the Premier League there is little doubt that the most surprising result was Manchester United’s defeat against Swansea City. The pre-season schedule of Louis van Gaal saw the Dutch coach going undefeated with impressive results but when the Premier League kicked off, the squad suffered trying to replicate similar performances.

The squad of guided by Garry Monk could only launch 5 shots throughout the entire match but it was still enough for Swansea City to claim the victory. When the game reached its end, Monk went on praising the work and team effort that his players demonstrated.

Swansea City’s manager, Garry Monk said: “The whole key to it all was us coming together as a group and working together. I made it clear to the players this week to go up here and show exactly what we’re about. We had a game plan to try and work to and to a man they were very, very good. We could have improved in a lot of areas but to come to Old Trafford in the first game of the season with everything going on… it was very good to get that level out of the boys already’’

Even with the surprising triumph from Swansea City over Manchester United, Monk still has plans of signing a few more players before the transfer window ends. According to the 35 years old manager of Swansea City, his squad can be much better than how it currently is and bringing in new players to the team will reinforce help reinforce it further.

Napoli’s Federico Fernandez is one of the summer targets of Garry Monk and a deal is already believed to be on the verge of completion with the Argentine defender only having to complete a series of medical tests before the transfer can be announced and confirmed to the public.

Suarez will struggle at FIFA World Cup 2014, says Hodgson

England manager Roy Hodgson believes Liverpool talisman Luis Suarez could struggle to replicate his club form in the FIFA World Cup 2014 for Uruguay.

The Uruguayan striker single handedly led Liverpool from the front this season, scoring 31 goals in the Premier League as the Reds came very close to securing their first league title in 24 years but according to Hodgson, he will find it difficult to display the same kind of venom for Uruguay.

The two former world champions have been drawn together in Group D along with another former champion Italy and Costa Rica and will face off in the second round.

Hodgson believes the double footballer of the year award winner, who scored 31 goals after returning from suspension to inspire the club’s challenge for the title, will struggle at the FIFA World Cup 2014 without the aid of his club mates.

The England boss said that he is not trying to take anything from what Suarez has done throughout the season and he is without a doubt his player of the season, adding that he has been exceptional and he is a player of immense caliber.

However, he is not alone in that aspect and according to Hodgson, he will not have the same players in the national team that he has at Liverpool and that might affect his game.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Fulham manager also pointed out that he will not concentrate on any one player and his team talk will be about the entire Uruguayan team and not focus on an individual come the FIFA World Cup 2014.

Hodgson pointed out that if England is to progress through to the latter rounds or win the tournament in the end, they will have to play together as a team, a strongly knit unit.

GIGGS STILL UNSURE

Manchester United interim manager Ryan Giggs has stated that he is still in the dark about what the future holds for him especially with regards to becoming the manager at United. Giggs was a surprise appointment after the sacking of David Moyes a few weeks ago. The club also drafted in a number of their older players like Paul Scholes as part of the coaching staff. The tactics appeared to work – for one game – after the club managed a successful 4-0 win over Norwich in which they looked like their old self.

However, the initial euphoria quickly disappeared after United suffered a 1-0 defeat against Sunderland last weekend. This was first defeat of Giggs managerial career, which is only two matches old. Continue reading →

GET BEHIND VILLA

Aston Villa Chief Executive Paul Faulkner has come out with a statement asking the club supporters to get behind their manager Paul Lambert in a bid to avoid relegation trouble for the second consecutive season. Lambert was brought in as the replacement for Alex McLeish at the start of last season. Since his time at the club, he has come under a lot of criticism for taking Villa backwards. After being a team that competed for European places during the time of Martin O’Neill, Villa are now in a position of fighting against relegation at the end of each campaign.

They narrowly avoided relegation last season and it looks to be the case this time around as well after they are just four points above the drop zone with four matches left. The 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park is the latest in a line of poor form, which is threatening to put the fans against manager Lambert. There have already been voices against the manager, but Faulkner says that this is the time to support the team and the staff. Villa are on a run of four consecutive defeats, which have come after the incredible 1-0 win over Chelsea at Villa Park.

“We have suffered four consecutive defeats and that is hard to take. We are hurting. Fans are hurting, players and the manager are hurting. The frustration is shared by everyone who loves Aston Villa. Now more than ever it’s time for us all to pull together – fans, players, the manager, everyone at the club. Our immediate focus and combined efforts need to be concentrated on our game against Southampton this weekend,” said the chief executive. Villa will next be taking on Southampton, who have little to play for in the remainder of the campaign.

OZIL STRUGGLES

Mesut Ozil’s campaign with Arsenal is not one that the German midfielder would like to remember as he has recently been dropped out from a few matches of the Premier League club and his penalty miss against Bayern Munich is still taking a toll on him.

Some days ago, Joachim Loew announced to all the German players that the clock is ticking and he will only take into consideration bringing into Brazil, the performers that are actually playing well with their respective clubs which means that Ozil’s chance to play for Germany for the 2014 World Cup could be in jeopardy.

Loew said: “We need the best players currently available at the World Cup, and not theoretically the best. I’ve told the players: The clock is ticking. And only ones who hear it will have a fighting chance. This is an appeal to all and a wakeup call to many to work on their training, their routine, and their professionalism as now is the optimal time [to work on those things] before the tournament.”

Germany played a friendly match against Chile at the Mercedez-Benz Arena and a lonely goal from Mario Gotze gave the team of Joachim Loew, the edge they needed in order to claim the victory and even though it was a fairly mediocre match for the Germans, Ozil still managed to stand out in some way or another as he provided the assist for Goetze who scored the only goal of the entire match.

Mesut Ozil stated that his lack of a pre-season with Arsenal is one of the main reasons on why his performances have been under-par.

“Nearly every player who is new to Premier League needs time to settle in. Here, you meet other challenges. It was clear that I would endure a difficult spell because I missed all of Arsenal’s pre-season preparation’’. Ozil admitted.

Joachim Loew might take this into consideration and allow Ozil enough time for him to play with the German team and see if his performances do improve and whether or not decide on letting the Arsenal player represent Germany for the upcoming 2014 World Cup.

JUVE TOP AGAIN

Juventus are once more at the top of the Serie A with a comfortable lead of 8 points over their nearest rivals As.Roma. Even though they have a competitive squad and have not shown much weaknesses in this season there still are rumors and reports involving a number of players that on the radar of Antonio Conte while some others might be seeing their way out of the club.

The head chiefs of Juventus are believed to be having talks with Tottenham concerning Erik Lamela and Conte is willing to use some of his own players in exchange of Lamela as it could tempt the Premier League side Tottenham on letting him go.

Erik Lamela has not enjoyed the best of times since making his switch to Tottenham and a move could be the best decision he makes for his career.

Andrea Pirlo’s passing abilities have always been the absolute best that the Serie A has to offer which has attracted the interest of many top European clubs and even at his fairly elevated years of age, Pirlo is wanted by some of the best clubs in the world.

Kwadwo Asamoah spoke about his current situation in Juventus and even though some reports and rumors have been linking him with a move to another club, the Ghanaian player stated that he has never even thought about leaving Juventus.

“It has never occurred to me to leave for another club.” Asamoah said.

Frederik Sorensen of Juventus is a big target of Bologna who will now have to pay at least €10 million if they want to have full ownership of the player as Sorensen currently is playing for Bologna but is co-owned by Juventus.

Manchester United’s Luis Nani has fallen out of the pecking order of David Moyes and Juventus seemed to be the more likely destination of the Portuguese winger but his injury might be an obstacle for the transfer as the Italian club is now taking their time before launching an official bid.
